Avalon Police Arrest South African on Drug Charges

AVALON –– The Avalon Police Department arrested a 29-year-old man from South Africa on various drug charges, early on Aug 30.
Police responded to an assault that was taking place inside a rental apartment at 30th Street and Dune Drive at 4:45 a.m. While quelling the disturbance, officers found a small quantity of drugs. A subsequent investigation revealed a much larger drug quantity.
Avalon police arrested Oliver Buckley, 29, of South Africa, a cable contractor living in the United States.
Buckley was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and distribution within 1,000 feet of school property.
Buckley was lodged in the county jail on $100,000 cash bail with no 10 percent option. The arresting officers were Officer Joe Gaughan and Detective Ben Gery.
The investigation is ongoing by Avalon Police Department.
