BURLEIGH — On Sept. 23 at 6:22 a.m. at the Wawa convenience store parking lot, Route 9 and Indian Tail Road, An armed robbery took place.
According to Middle Township police, a 62-year-old male patron of the store was in the parking lot returning to his car.
At that time, Thomas Fields, 56, of Whitesboro allegedly produced a handgun and demanded money. Shortly afterward, another patrol arrived at the store and was alerted by the victim to call police.
The victim was able to flee into the store unharmed.
Fields then entered the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through the passenger compartment. He then fled on a bicycle west on Indian Trail. His description was given to Middle Township police officers.
About 6:33 a.m., Patrolman David Hagan saw Fields behind a home on Starling Avenue, just off Indian Trail.
Hagan was able to arrest Fields without incident. A search of the area revealed a .32 caliber handgun.
Fields was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.
He was remanded to county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail set by Judge Richard Russell.
Patrolman Marcus Phillips and Detective Richard McHale investigated the case.
