Alleged Assault on Dad Ends in Son’s Arrest

STONE HARBOR – A concerned citizen notified Stone Harbor Police Department foot patrol SLEO II Kyle Mecouch of a possible fight occurring within a nearby apartment on the 300 block 96th Street June 20 at 8:32 p.m.

Sgt. Stephen Schuck and Officer Justin Glass responded to the apartment and discovered a domestic violence assault had occurred. Sgt. Schuck’s investigation found Gerald Dearie Jr., 30, of Stone Harbor had allegedly assaulted his father, who showed clear signs of injury. Stone Harbor Rescue Squad responded to the scene where the 66-year-old victim refused medical treatment.

Dearie Jr. was arrested and subsequently charged with assault. Judge Dorothy Garrabrant granted a warrant with bail set at $5,000. Dearie Jr. was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of bail. 

The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
