Bid winter farewell at WheatonArts

WheatonArts’ “Winter Weekends,” a series of classes, demonstrations and interactive activities for children and their families, continue every Saturday and Sunday through March 28.
In March the following hands-on activities are free and take place in The Gallery of Fine Craft.
■ “Nature Craft Series” – Saturdays only. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities include pine cone feeders, Huichol Indian (Mexican) stick weaving, seed and bean mosaics, and much more.
■ Selected Hands-On Activities – Saturdays and Sundays. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities include crayon and non-toxic stamps and markers, make-your-own bracelet, decorate a spiral mobile/spinner, tissue paper craft, still life in “Sketchers Corner,” origami crane and origami box, duct tape wallet, and make-your-own greeting card.
The following “fee-based” workshops begin at 2 p.m. and last 45 minutes to an hour in length. Class sizes are limited. No pre-registration. Member discounts do not apply for these workshops.
■ March 7 – Painting On Glass with Trish Dufford. Ages 12 and up. Cost: $18 per person. Learn about the different materials, techniques, and methodologies on painting on glass.
■ March 8 – Designing Paper Beads with Deb DiMarco. Ages 12 and up. Cost: $12 per person.
Design your own beads from newspapers, magazines, gift wrap paper and paper bags (that will look like “real” wood).
■ March 14 – Introduction to Polymer Beadmaking with Daryle Abeling. Ages 9 and up. Cost: $12 per person. Learn how to create beautiful ornamental beads from polymer clay.
■ March 15 – Introduction To Bead Necklaces with Noele Alampi and Lori Johns. Ages 16 and up. Cost: $15 per person. This class will teach the basics of designing and creating a bead necklace.
■ March 21 – Ukrainian Pysanka (Easter Egg Decorating) with Stephanie Hrychowian. Ages 12 and up. Cost: $12 per person. A pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated using a written-wax resist (batik) method.
■ March 22 – Fused Glass Tiles with Deb DiMarco. Ages 10 and up. Cost: $25 per person.
By using colorful flat glass along with an assortment of glass stringers, powders and frits, each student will have the opportunity to discover the versatility of this medium and explore their own inner vision.
■ March 28 – Create A Glass Stepping Stone with Janice Olivio. Ages 12 and up. Cost: $12 per person. Students will design a glass mosaic pattern or image for a stepping stone.

In March WheatonArts is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. WheatonArts offers free admission during these three months only. It is free to shop and stroll.
The Museum of American Glass and all of the museum stores are open. The Glass, Pottery and Flameworking Studios and Down Jersey Folklife Center are closed during these three months. They will reopen April 1 when WheatonArts, 1501 Glasstown Rd., Millville, returns to its six-day operating schedule.
