COURT HOUSE – Atlantic Cape Community College’s Board of Trustees will look into whether the college should have armed security on its three campuses, according to The Press of Atlantic City.
The issue was brought up in a letter to Atlantic Cape President Peter Mora by Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson following a shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon Oct. 1.
Levinson told the Press of Atlantic City that he doesn’t believe all security officers should be armed, just some, and that he believed changes could be made at minimal expense, like hiring retired police officers as security.

Michael Bruckler, director of college relations at Atlantic Cape, released a statement saying the college has developed a model for a feasibility study that will be discussed with trustee committees at meetings next week.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City Campus, Room 204. All are welcome to attend.
