Woman Injured in Swainton Crash

By Deborah McGuire

SWAINTON – A 54-year-old Avalon resident was injured March 15 when the vehicle she was driving left the road, crashed into a tree and rolled over.
According to Capt. John Edwards of Middle Township police, Pamela Garafolo was driving a black 2004 Cadillac SRX northbound on Route 9 near Birch Lane at 12:30 p.m. when the vehicle drifted from its lane, crossing the opposing lane of traffic and crashing into a tree. Upon impact the vehicle flipped over, entrapping the driver.
Emergency responders from Cape May Court House Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to remove the victim from her vehicle.
“It took time to get her out because she was pinned inside,” said Edwards.
Garafolo was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. Her condition was unknown.
In addition to police and fire personnel, Medic 9 and Middle Township Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.
The accident remains under investigation, Edwards said.
