Vehicle Overturns on Route 47

By Jack Fichter

ERMA — A victim of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday July 22 at approximately 11 a.m., in the area of Route 47 near the George Redding Bridge in Lower Township, had been transported for head injuries sustained during the crash when her vehicle flipped over after side swiping another vehicle, according to the Lower Township Police Department.
The victim was being treated at the Atlantic City Medical Center City Division where she had been taken by ambulance after the accident.
The accident involved a single car traveling into Wildwood when it began to swerve. It then side swiped another vehicle before turning over onto the roof of the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest partially in the roadway and grass median. The driver had to be removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel who had arrived on scene from various police, rescue and fire agencies.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle is identified as Brenda Jefferson, of Forget Me Not Road, Wildwood Crest. The accident is still under investigation but appears to involve some type of medical issue prior to the accident.
The Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, Wildwood Fire Department and Police Department, Middle Township Police Department, Rio Grande Fire Department, and Lower Township Rescue assisted Lower Township police with traffic control and medical care at the scene.
Patrolman Brian McEwing investigated the case.
