Police said about 350 gallons of acrylic paint and 30 gallons of gasoline were spilled on the shoulder of the road, the surrounding ground and into the marsh.
Police closed one lane of traffic while the Rio Grande Fire Department, assisted by the Wildwood Fire Department, responded to the motor vehicle crash.
The Cape May County Department of Health CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives) Unit and New Jersey State Police also responded to the scene.
Police said the shoulder of the road remained closed during cleanup efforts. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
