Police Identify, Charge June 1 Route 47 Crash Victim

GOSHEN — On June 1 at 12:29 a.m., Middle Township police received several 9-1-1 calls about a motor vehicle accident with fire on Route 47 near milepost 15.4 here.
As a result, a Pittsgrove man was charged with driving while intoxicated.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle driven by James C. Vest Jr., 26, of Pittsgrove was northbound when it left the roadway and hit a utility pole, a wooden fence then struck, head-on, a parked sport utility vehicle that was parked in front of a home at 549 Route 47.
A portion of the front of that house was also struck and damaged.
The vehicle then caught fire. The driver and only occupant in the car, Vest, was injured, but able to leave the vehicle.
Belleplain Emergency Corps and Goshen Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene as well as AtlaniCare paramedics.
Vest was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Trauma Unit.
Patrolman Matthew Martino investigated the crash, and charged Vest with driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle offenses.
The highway was closed for several hours as crew cleaned up the debris and repaired the downed power lines.
