WOODBINE— A patient at the Woodbine Developmental Center was admitted to Cape Regional Medical Center with an ankle injury following a single vehicle crash here on CR-610 just east of Academy Road, approximately two miles from the facility.
The crash occurred at 11:15 p.m. on May 12, according to state police.
The 26 year-old male patient escaped through an unlocked window and then stole a state work truck. The truck sideswiped a utility pole causing heavy damage to the side of the truck, according to state police.
Belleplain Emergency Corps and Atlanticare Paramedics were dispatched to the scene.
A Woodbine Developmental Center ambulance arrived a short time later taking custody of the patient, then transporting to Cape Regional, according to reports.
According to the Department of Health and Senior services website, Woodbine Developmental Center, serves approximately 700 men with mental retardation and/or other developmental disabilities.
The patient who the Herald is not identifying due to the patients developmental disabilities is not being charged, according to Trooper Varnadore who is investigating the incident.
