Parkway Crash Claims Three Lives

CORRECTION –
Middletown Township – Three Staten Island teens lost their lives when they were ejected from a vehicle traveling northbound on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Township shortly after 5 a.m., Monday, July 4. The driver and three other passengers were injured in the crash.
State Police identified the deceased: Chrystoph Iliopoulos, 13, Staten Island, NY; Eric Colligan, 15, Staten Island, NY;Hlias Iliopoulos, 18, Staten Island, NY. Authorities also identified the injured: Dimitrios Iliopoulos, 54, Staten Island, NY (Driver): Stavroula Iliopoulos, 51, Staten Island, NY; Fotiny Iliopoulos, 20, Staten Island, NY; Vincent Whiteaker, 25, Staten Island, NY.
According to a report from NBC New York, a preliminary investigation indicates a 2003 Gray Ford Expedition with the seven occupants was northbound on the Parkway when the driver, Dimitrios Iliopoulos, lost control of the vehicle, veered to the right and struck the guardrail. The vehicle continued moving north along the guardrail and flipped over at least twice, ejecting five of the passengers, including the deceased.
Northbound lanes were closed, with emergency crews responding, until almost 10 a.m. Traffic was backed-up for miles, with residual effects evident long after traffic lanes were reopened.
