By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY — Monsignor Thomas J. McIntyre of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church was hospitalized in critical condition following a fall on slippery steps Feb. 13.
According to Cape May Mayor Edward J. Mahaney Jr., McIntyre suffered a severe head injury. The mayor said McIntyre initially did not believe has was injured but five hours later realized he had a head injury. Brother Bob Carson called 9-1-1 and part time EMT’s/Firefighters Alex Toler and Tim Gay responded.
“After examining the monsignor, they called for a helicopter and he was choppered to Atlantic City Medical Center Trauma Division and underwent neurosurgery that evening,” said Mahaney. “The prompt action of these two EMT’s, according to the surgeons, probably saved his life.”
