Mom, One Child Suffer Minor Injuries in Crash on Icy Bridge

By Herald Staff

GRASSY SOUND — On Sunday, Dec. 21, at approximately 4:32 a.m., the Middle Township Police Department investigated a one vehicle crash on the westbound lane of the Great Channel Bridge (largest of the three bridges) on State Highway 147, coming out of North Wildwood.
Both the driver, Marla Klemovitich, of Marmora, and one of two child passengers suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by the Middle Township Ambulance Corps, where they were treated and released.
The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Jack Trombetta.
Traffic conditions at the time of the crash were very icy. A combination of freezing temperatures and rain created the hazardous conditions that made the bridge impassible. Emergency personnel experienced extremely icy conditions approaching the bridge and had difficulty in securing the scene.
Members of North Wildwood Police Department and Middle Township Police Department detoured traffic for one hour, while the state Road Department salted the bridge and sections of State Highway 147.
The Middle Township Police Department urges motorists to use caution when approaching any bridge while driving in wet weather, which may cause the bridge surface to freeze before the road, and not allow drivers to slow down in time to avoid a collision.
