Low-Speed Vehicle Crash Injured 1, Results in DWI Charge

The following is based on information received from a law enforcement agency. The person(s) named is innocent unless proven otherwise in court.
CAPE MAY – The Cape May Police Department along with Cape May Fire Department responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle accident May 14 at the intersection of Ocean Street and Columbia Avenue. 
Investigation at the scene revealed that a low-speed vehicle (street legal golf cart) was involved in the accident and both occupants were thrown from the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, John Altieri, was arrested at the scene for obstructing the administration of law and later charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving, uninsured vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, and a criminal charge of assault by auto.
The passenger of the vehicle, Christine Altieri, was airlifted to AtlantiCare Medical Center due to injuries sustained in the accident.
Patrolman Walters, Sgt. Cooper and members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting the investigation.
