CAPE MAY. — The Coast Guard rescued a kayaker from the Delaware Bay here Sat., May 26.
Rescued was Thomas McCabe.
Jason Barnes, a friend of McCabe, contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at 5:28 p.m. reporting he received a call from McCabe who had capsized his kayak four miles off Cape May Point and needed assistance.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, located McCabe from the air, and a 25-foot Response Boat — Small crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene and transported McCabe back to the station where he was transferred to emergency medical personnel and refused medical attention.
“McCabe stayed with his overturned kayak and was wearing his life jacket, which greatly aided in his survival,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Neena Santiago, a watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia.
