SOUTH SEAVILLE — A Dennis Township man lost his life Tue., Nov. 1, while cutting a limb from a large tree in his front yard.
According to a report from State Police, Frank Smith, 61, of South Seaville, sustained fatal injuries after falling from a ladder while cutting a large tree limb on the front lawn of his residence on the 200 block of Kings Highway.
A call for help was made at approximately 2:50 p.m.
“When troopers arrived at the scene they found the victim lying face down with a large tree branch on top of him,” Sgt. Brian Polite of New Jersey State Police told the Herald. Polite added that lying next to Smith was an extension ladder and a small chainsaw.
“It appears that he was up on the ladder, chopping down a tree limb,” said Polite.
Smith was declared dead at the scene of the accident. An autopsy has been scheduled.
Crews from Ocean View Volunteer Fire Department and Bellleplain Emergency Medical Services were on scene, along with members of the State Police.
The accident remains under investigation.
