PALERMO – A two-car motor vehicle crash Jan. 25 sent one person to the hospital, and left another with minor injuries.
The crash occurred at 2:45 p.m. on Route 9, at milepost 26.2, in the area of Queen Anne Court, in Palermo. Troopers from New Jersey State Police Woodbine Station responded.
Lt. Ted Schafer, New Jersey State Police, said a 2017 Honda, driven by Dorothea Whildin, 79, of Ocean View, struck a 2016 Ford utility truck, driven by William Nesbitt, 54, of Egg Harbor Township.
Whildin and passenger, Herbert Whildin, 83, also of Ocean View, were reportedly entrapped in the Honda. Dorothea Whildin was flown to Atlantic City Medical Center with serious injuries. Schafer did not know whether Herbert Whildin was injured, but could confirm there were no fatalities. Nesbitt suffered minor injuries.
The crash caused significant traffic problems, according to Schafer. The roadway was closed for several hours in both directions. Traffic from Route 9 and Evergreen Drive was diverted to Stagecoach Road.
Also on scene were New Jersey State Police’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and EMS (emergency medical services).
All were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. “No drugs or alcohol are suspected at this time,” said Schafer.
No charges have been filed. The crash is still under investigation.
