RIO GRANDE — A two-vehicle, head-on collision on Fulling Mill Road on July 5 at 6:37 p.m. claimed the life of Villas resident Eleanor M. Stecher, 65.
According to Middle Township police, a preliminary investigation found that Joseph Colagreco of Brookhaven, Pa. was driving westbound on Fulling Mill Road (CR 654) in a 1991 Chevy Blazer when Stecher, eastbound in a 2007 Ford Focus wagon, left her lane of travel and struck Colagreco’s vehicle head-on.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Colagreco was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division by Middle Township Rescue Squad. He sustained multiple injuries.
A 7-year-old passenger in Colagreco’s vehicle was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center.
The accident remains under investigation by Patrolman James Loftus, the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit and the Cape May County Fatal Accident Team.
Members of Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Company responded with Jaws of Life extrication tools.Cape May County Fire Police responded to assist with traffic control. Green Creek firefighters were summoned to standby for Rio Grande as they worked at the scene.
