WINSLOW — A 22-year-old Court House man was killed when his car struck the rear of a tanker truck on the Atlantic City Expressway. According to a state police spokesman, the accident occurred Tue., Aug. 21 at 11:34 p.m.
The driver, Jonathan Schifferdecker, was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu in the east-bound lanes of the Expressway near mile post 30.1 when he drove directly into the back of a tanker truck that was stopped in traffic.
“There was an accident investigation from a previous accident at that location that was still being cleaned up,” said the spokesman.
Upon striking the tanker Schifferdecker’s vehicle caught fire. Emergency personnel on scene for the previous accident were able to extinguish the fire.
“He was entrapped in the vehicle and was pronounced at the scene a short time after midnight,” said the spokesman.
Schifferdecker, whose life’s dream was to be a television writer, was a student at Temple University, where he was head writer for the school’s SMASH, a live comedy television program and captain of the university’s improvisational team. He was a 2008 graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School.
“My life is, and will continue to be, built around and upon the endless and frequent production of collaborative art,” Schifferdecker wrote on his Linkedin.com profile.
Schifferdecker is survived by his parents, Don and Patti Schifferdecker; his grandmothers Gerry Schifferdecker and Patricia Bova; his brother Von; and the love of his life, Emily Di-ego. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A funeral Mass will be said Mon., Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 E. Mechanic St. in Court House. Visitation will be held Sun., Aug. 26 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Court House and Mon. Aug. 27 from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be private.
