Coast Guard Airlifts Fisherman to Trauma Center

CAPE MAY – The Coast Guard medevaced a 46-year-old man Saturday, April 11, 55 miles east of Cape May.
The Coast Guard received a call at 10:43 p.m. from a crew member aboard the fishing boat Andy Two, homported in Cape May, reporting a crew member broke his leg and needed medical assistance.
The victim rescued has been Identified as Fon Chau.
A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, arrived on scene and began to transport Chau in the rescue litter when the hoisting cable parted and Chau fell 10 feet into the water while still in the litter.
Chau was re-located by the rescue swimmer and hoisted into the helicopter after the air crew was able to re-splice the cable.
Chau was reported conscience and responsive and taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment.
No injuries of the air crew were reported.
