By Herald Staff

OCEAN CITY — A Somers Point woman, involved in a Dec. 31 motor vehicle crash on Route 52 at 2:36 a.m. faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated.
According to Ocean City Police, the department responded to the accident. Upon arriving the investigating officers found one vehicle involved that was overturned in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, Catherine Gallagher, 22, of Somers Point, was found approximately eight feet away sitting on a concrete barrier.
It was determined that no other vehicles were involved and that Gallagher was the only person in the overturned vehicle. Investigating officers made observations that indicated Gallagher might have been under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
Gallagher was transported to the Atlantic City Medical Center City Division for treatment of possible head injuries. The investigation continued at the hospital by the officers. The investigation revealed that Gallagher’s vehicle traveled approximately 380 feet from where it initially came into contact with the guardrail on the bridge. Based on those observations and statements made by Gallagher, police believed that alcohol consumption and speed were the cause of the accident.
