Accident Claims Life of Man

By Deborah McGuire

GOSHEN – An accident took the life of an unidentified adult male when the car he was operating was struck by another vehicle while driving on Route 47.
According to police reports, police received several 9 -1-1 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Route 47. Officers responding to the scene found a head-on crash with both cars in the southbound lane of the highway.
An initial investigation indicated a black Dodge Charger, driven by Robert DeMarco, 29, of Williamstown was traveling north on Route 47 when it left the northbound lane. DeMarco’s vehicle struck a Ford Taurus which was traveling southbound.
A witness on the scene stated the Charger had been traveling north on the highway from the Rio Grande area.
Responding to the accident were emergency personnel from Cape May Court House and Goshen fire companies. Rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the Taurus, who was then transported via Atlanticare Medic 9 to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center’s trauma center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to Middle Township police Capt. John Edwards, because of inclement weather, the unidentified driver was unable to be transported via helicopter.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
Township police are asking witnesses who may have observed a black Dodge Charger traveling north on Route 47 around 5 p.m. on Nov. 7 to please contact them at 609-465-8700.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Crash Unit responded to the scene and is assisting the Middle Township Crimes Unit detectives with the investigation.
Charges against DeMarco are pending.
