COURT HOUSE — Beginning this week, there will be changes to the traffic patterns along Ocean Drive (CR 621) in Lower Township in the vicinity of the Upper Thorofare Bridge. The county will be undertaking more that $5 million in improvements to the Upper Thorofare and Mill Creek bridges as part of the final phase of a series of planned improvements to the two spans.
This phase of construction will include scour abatement work, installation of pile jackets, underdeck spall repairs, the replacement of the deteriorated bridge railing system with a bridge-mounted guide-rail system and the construction of a 5-foot-wide cantilevered pedestrian walkway along each of the bridges.
To accommodate this work, there will be a temporary traffic signal so that traffic flow within a designated work area is limited to one lane of travel. The signal will be at each end of the Upper Thorofare Bridge to limit access across the bridge to one lane of travel. Traffic will alternate using the signal.
Upon completion of the work along the Upper Thorofare Bridge, the traffic signal will be relocated to the Mill Creek Bridge, and a similar traffic pattern will be established along this bridge during construction. Motorists are advised to expect minor delays and to use caution when crossing the bridge, and to always abide by the traffic signal.
Work is expected to be completed prior to Memorial Day 2025.
