From Sea Isle City

SEA ISLE – After earning 44 merit badges and completing the requirements set forth by the Boy Scouts of America, Aaron Morton, 17, advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor Ceremony inside Sea Isle City’s Community Lodge on December 2.

Morton lit ceremonial candles, was showered with words of praise, and received his Eagle Scout Badge while ascending to the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank. Elected officials of Sea Isle City were in attendance to present Morton with proclamations that acknowledged his achievements. Family members, friends, older Eagle Scouts, and members of Boy Scout Troop 76 also showed their support.

In addition to earning merit badges and serving as a “Life Scout” for the required amount of time, Aaron was required to complete an Eagle Scout service project of his choosing. Eagle Scout service projects must benefit the community, a school, a church, or a civic organization other than the Boy Scouts of America.

For his project, Aaron, who attends Mainland Regional High School, opted to create a Butterfly Garden on the grounds of the Sea Isle City Branch of the Cape May County Library. After raising funds to complete his project, he planted various butterfly-attracting shrubs, added decorative trim around the garden’s edge, and installed an informational sign.
