Morey Questions Delay in Posting Audio of Meetings

Cape May County Commissioner Will Morey asked why audio of meetings could not be posted as soon as possible, rather than waiting two weeks for minutes to be voted on.

CREST HAVEN – County Commissioner Will Morey asked his fellow commissioners, at the board’s March 12 meeting, why the audio recording of their meetings needs to wait until the written minutes are approved, about two weeks after the meeting.

“The audio is what it is,” Morey said, saying it is not amended or corrected.

Commissioner Director Leonard Desiderio said he thought a resolution passed by the board indicated the public could listen to the live meeting, and the audio recording would be posted two weeks later, when the board approved the minutes from the previous meeting.

Morey said he did not believe that was the intention of the board and wondered why the audio recording was not posted later the same day as the meeting. He said it would be nice if someone who could not attend the 2 p.m. caucus meeting or 3 p.m. regular meeting could listen to the meeting by 7 p.m., for example.

County Counsel Jeff Lindsay answered Morey in a fashion similar to the way Desiderio answered him, saying the minutes are approved at the following meeting, roughly two weeks later, and both the audio and minutes are posted on the county website.

Morey repeated that he didn’t understand the reason for waiting on the minutes. Lindsay said the minutes could be amended, but the audio would not be changed.

Morey asked the board to consider having the audio recordings of the meetings available online shortly after the meeting.
