GLOUCESTER COUNTY – Cape May County 4-H’ers competed at the 2023 NJ State 4-H Championship Horse Show August 25-26 at the Dream Park in Gloucester County. Two young equestrians competed in English, Western and Games Divisions and took home multiple awards.
Abigail Kitner and Callie Carney of the Star Hollow Riders 4-H Club represented Cape May County at the state event. “We are very proud of these dedicated, young equestrians who represented Cape May County 4-H at the state horse show – they worked hard, and it paid off,” said Linda Horner, Cape May County 4-H Program Coordinator.
In the English Day competition, Abigail Kitner with her horse, They’ll See in Time, took home a Grand Championship in English Under Saddle, a Grand Championship in Handy Hunter Horse, a Reserve Championship in Working Hunter Horse, a Reserve Championship in Jr. Equitation over Fences, 4th place in English Pleasure Horse, and 7th Place in Jr. Equitation on the Flat.
Abigail also competed in the English Day competition with her horse Pixie Dust. They earned a Grand Championship in Hunter Hack Pony, a Grand Championship in Working Hunter Pony, 4th place in English Pleasure Pony, and 6th Place in Hunter Under Saddle Pony. Additionally, Abigail and Pixie Dust competed in the Western Day competition and finished 3rd in Western Pleasure Pony, 4th in Jr. Western Horsemanship, 5th place in Pony Poles, Pony Barrels, and Pony Bowtie, and 8th place in Pony Plug.
In English Day competition, Callie Carney and her horse, Monopoly’s Chance, finished in 7th place in Hunter Hack Pony, 9th place in Jr. Equitation on the Flat, and 10th place in Pleasure Pony. In Western Day competition, Callie and Monopoly’s Chance finished 4th in Western Pleasure Pony, and 6th in Pony Barrels.
