‘Tri for Our Vets’ Set in Sea Isle

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY — “Tri for Our Veterans” triathlon returns to Sea Isle for its third, sold-out year on May 29. Individuals, as well as teams for the relay, can choose to compete in a triathlon or duathlon. The race will begin at 7 a.m/ at JFK Blvd. and the Promenade, and is preceded by the singing of the National Anthem at 6:55 A.M.
The triathlon consists of a 400-meter ocean swim, an eight-mile bicycle race, and a 3.1-mile beach run. The duathlon consists of a two-mile run, an eight-mile bicycle race, and a 3.1-mile beach run.
“Tri for Our Veterans” is a fundraiser to benefit The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, which provides financial assistance and quality of life solutions to injured marines and sailors, their families, and other service members injured while in direct support of marine units.
This year’s event is being dedicated to Matt McCulley, the founder of “Tri for Our Vets.” On Jan. 12, Matt suddenly passed away.
McCulley was an avid triathlete and coach. He had a vision to develop a triathlon in his favorite vacation town, Sea Isle City, which would benefit two very special organizations, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Sea Isle City’s VFW Post 1963.
Last year “Tri for Our Veterans” raised $34,000 for its cause. Volunteers are still needed to help with the event and water donations would be greatly appreciated. A volunteer meeting will be held on May 28th at 7 p.m. at the Community Lodge on JFK Boulevard.
For additional information on the event, contact Bridgette Summa, race organizer, at bridgettesumma@gmail.com or 610-888-0885. For course and race details please visit www.piranha-sports.com.
