The Middle Township girls’ lacrosse team and the Wildwood Catholic softball team ended their respective seasons over the weekend in the state tournaments.
MIDDLE TOWNSHIP GIRLS LACROSSE:
The Panthers fell 17-8 against state powerhouse Oak Knoll in the Group I state final game on June 3 at Kean University. Seniors Jenna Herlihy and Allison Hunter led the team with three goals apiece while Bridget Ruskey and Aubrey Hunter each added one. Maggie Slavin made thirteen stops in net.
Oak Knoll earned their third consecutive state title with the win. The Royals will move on to the semifinal round of the state Tournament of Champions.
Middle finished the season 18-3 and won their first ever South Jersey Group I title on May 25. The Panthers will graduate state record holders Bridget Ruskey and Allison Hunter along with key contributors Jenna Herlihy, Olivia Nelson and Skylar Gentilini.
WILDWOOD CATHOLIC SOFTBALL:
The Crusaders reached the state championship game after winning the program’s first ever South Jersey Non-Public B group title on June 1. The post season success came to an end at Kean University on June 4 with an 8-2 loss against Lodi Immaculate in the championship. Jayla Jamison went 2-for-4 with a double and Emily Cimino hit an RBI.
Lodi Immaculate earned their fifth straight state championship title, setting a state record with the most consecutive state softball titles.
Wildwood Catholic finished the season 18-6. The Crusaders will graduate lone senior and captain Casey Manera.
