If one were searching for two groups of young people who accomplished a good deal on the golf course this past spring-they’d need look no further than the Middle Township High School and Lower Cape May Regional High School golf programs.
Each earned their fair share of success this past season. Middle Township captured a memorable dual meet victory.
“Middle Township versus Cape May Tech Middle won 170-177 [was a memorable triumph],’’ Middle Township head coach Dave Joslin said. “PJ Schulte shoots a 2-under par 34 to lead the team.’’
Coach Joslin mentioned Schulte as being among the team leaders for the Panthers this year.
“PJ Schulte, Andrew Kapp and Laura Porto all stepped up as captains and leaders on the team,’’ Joslin said. “They worked hard to help our young team learn essential skills and compete in match play.’’
A couple of student athletes stood out as showing the most progress from the very first practice through the last match of the season.
“Most improved from start of season to end were Dan Holman and Haley Revak,’’ Joslin said.
The panthers tallied an overall record of 13-3 and there is plenty of excitement surrounding Middle Township’s prospects for 2020.
“We have four returning starters that will be seniors next year,’’ Joslin said. “We also have a core of incoming sophomores who worked hard all season and are continuing to play in an effort to get better. We have a good group of very competitive kids who will push themselves and each other to get better.
“We lost our first dual match this year for the first time in a number of years. Our kids didn’t like that feeling and are already putting in the work on their own to get better. We have quite a few kids who have already signed up to take lessons over the summer all in an effort to make sure they’re playing their best golf next spring.’’
Lower Cape May Regional tallied nine impressive wins this past season.
“We had a great start to the season up to Easter Break we were 6-1 in dual matches,’’ Lower Cape May Regional head coach Jeff Wunder said. “Kolby Carter and Jack Perry were our most consistent players this season. Kolby was our Most Valuable Player and earned All-League status. Matt Madsen, Wilson Hart and Austin Taylor [all showed improvement and] will do fine next season.
“I would like to thank Cape May National and the Mullock Family for their continued support in Caper Golf, also the Cape May National Men’s Golf League for all their support.’’
