COURT HOUSE – On the sprawling, green course of Union League National Golf Club May 16, more than 130 golfers teed off to support the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers at the 18th Annual “Be a HERO” golf tournament. Despite the occasionally rainy weather, the golfers and more than 20 volunteers enjoyed the tournament’s fun Margaritaville theme, complete with a steel drum soundtrack and Parrott Punch HEROtini Mocktails.
The tournament was hosted by MediLink Homecare, Inc. Willis Towers Watson sponsored the Gus Tzeferos Memorial Tin Cup Challenge. Proceeds totaling more than $35,000 will benefit the HERO Campaign’s mission to prevent drunk driving by promoting the use of safe and sober activities.
“Thanks to the generosity of the many supporters who made our ‘Be A Hero’ Golf Tournament so successful over the years, we make a significant difference in promoting safe and sober designated driving,” stated Bill Elliott, founder of the HERO Campaign. “Through events like this, we can continue to encourage individuals to step up and take the HERO Pledge to be a designated driver and save lives!”
Funds raised from the event benefit the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers, a program of the John R. Elliott Foundation. The HERO Campaign promotes its message of safe and sober designated driving to save lives through partnerships with high schools, colleges, law enforcement agencies and bars, along with numerous public awareness initiatives and special events throughout the region.
