By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY POINT — St. Mary’s summer retreat for the Sisters of St. Joseph was filled with dogs and police officers Feb. 20, not because of an emergency, but for a training session in the former hotel built in 1890 that features a maze of rooms.
Officer and bomb sniffing dogs from 14 agencies descended on the building were nitrates, a key ingredient in explosives, was hidden in room and in the attic for the dogs to locate.
Dogs were rewarded with playtime and a rolled up towel as toy upon locating the “explosive.”
