COURT HOUSE — Middle Township is giving residents additional time to pay their municipal sewer bills in light of the economic hardships many face during the COVID-19 crisis, according to a release.
In a resolution passed at the April 6 Township Committee meeting, the grace period for paying second-quarter sewer user fees, without an interest penalty, was extended for 30 days.
Residents normally have a 10-day grace period for their sewer bills, so the extension grants them a total of 40 days to pay without accruing interest. Second-quarter sewer bills were originally due on April 1.
The extension was granted as some residents who are financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic await relief in the form of state unemployment benefits and stimulus checks from the federal government.
“This is one step we can take at this point to give people a little bit of a break from the pressure they’re under to pay a lot of bills,” Mayor Tim Donohue said during Monday’s Township Committee meeting, which, for the first time, was broadcast virtually through Zoom and Facebook Live, according to the release.
