A Quick Guide to Pool Code Fencing

MURPHY FENCE 2-19-20

By Sponsored

Nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer day than a dip in a pool, which is even better if that pool is in your own backyard. Installing a fence as a barrier around your swimming pool helps protect kids and prevent unsupervised access.  It’s also required by state law.
Height
Pool fencing must be at least four feet tall to meet the code.
Spacing
At 4 feet tall, you are allowed no more than 1 ¾ inches between pickets. Fences that are 54 inches high or taller are allowed no more than 4 inches of space between pickets. For example, in the case of a chain-link style fence, mini-mesh must be used on 4-foot-high material to meet these requirements.
Gates
All gates acting as a barrier to a pool must swing out (away from the pool/yard) and be self-closing and self-latching.
