On the First Carol of Christmas

By Gus Mosso

Today I heard my first seasonal Christmas carol on my FM radio
Even though it’s mid-November, I felt a pang of joy and an inner glow
I am so grateful to believe that there is a Christ with whom I share my life
And having a wonderful family, both near and far, and an ever-loving wife!
As the Advent season begins, I clear all disturbing thoughts within
I allow only good thoughts into my mind and promise not to sin
I now ponder and await the most wonderful gift to mankind
Our Savior will again be born– he never leaves us behind!
As winter winds and snow approach and December can be so dim
The warmth of expectation sets a fire that warms my heart within
I start to see what is good upon this earth…put negativity aside
Not everyone has this gift, and for them, I pray… not chide!
So Dear God, as we again rejoice during the happiest of seasons
Bring us all together as one, in your holy image, for so many reasons
Let not the color of our skin, whom we choose to love, whom we do endorse
Not categorize and divide us, but rather bring us together as a Christian force!
When Christ was born on that early Christmas morn to Joseph and his wife
He did not seek wealth, fame, earthly power, nor a luxurious style of life
If we could only return to that “simplicity” as we live our lives today
Allowing Christ to be our guide as we all kneel down to pray!
Wishing all Christians a very blessed and happy Christmas
And to those of other faiths, a joyous celebration of what you truly believe!
