COURT HOUSE – Lay Pastor, Sharon Kruck, and member, Carol Porter of Pilgrim Holiness Church of Erma, accepted a $500 check from Bonnie Kratzer, RN, Parish Nurse Coordinator and Gloria Schultz, Program Navigator, in recognition of the Church’s support of breast cancer awareness; ten women received mammograms as a result of the program.
“We are a small congregation,” stated Pastor Kruck. “We were determined to be successful in educating the women of our church and motivating them to obtain mammograms.”
The award is part of an incentive program through a grant by the Central and South Jersey Affiliate Susan G. Komen Reach-Out for Life Program administered by Cape Regional Medical Center. Faith-based organizations are encouraged to promote and support Breast Cancer Awareness to their congregations; a stipend of $500 is awarded to each church that sponsors and signs up ten or more women for mammograms.
Since April 2010, The Parish Nurse Program and Center for Lifestyle Management Center at Cape Regional Medical Center has been participating in the Reach-Out for Life Grant. The Grant focuses on women 65 years of age or older; however, women between the ages of 40 and 64 are also included.
