Middle Township Police Department Announces Participation in ‘Project Medicine Drop’

COURT HOUSE – Middle Township police have announced that the department will take part in Project Medicine Drop as a way to stop the diversion and abuse of prescription drugs, including highly addictive opiate painkillers.
As part of the initiative with the state Division of Consumer Affairs, police have installed a secure prescription drug drop box in the department’s lobby at 31 Mechanic St., Cape May Court House.
Police said this will allow area residents to safely dispose of unused, excess, or expired prescription medications.
According to police, the public can drop off unused prescription medications anonymously with no questions asked. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year.
“This is an important part of our efforts to combat the heroin epidemic in our community,” said Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner. “This program in combination with our Public Advocate Program with our partner Cape Assist in our municipal court will help us make a difference here in Middle Township,” he said.
