It’s Not Too Late to Get a Flu Shot!

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Department of Health vaccinated an additional 2,400 county residents at the final drive-through flu shot clinic at Kindle Ford on No.18.
“So far this year, we’re pleased to have vaccinated over 6,900 residents against the flu,” Freeholder Gerald Thornton stated in a release.
“The influenza season typically peaks in January and February, so getting vaccinated in December is an opportune time to maximize immunity to the flu virus. The Department of Health has some remaining flu vaccine and we will be holding several additional clinics to vaccinate as many people as possible in the coming weeks,” Health Officer Kevin Thomas stated.
The Department of Health will be holding one clinic especially for children 6 months of age and older, and their parents on Nov. 27 from 2-6 p.m. at the Department of Health, 6 Moore Road, Court House (exit 11 off Garden State Parkway).
Residents 6 months of age and older can receive free flu shots on Nov. 30, Dec. 7, and Dec. 14 at the Department of Health. The Friday clinics will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.
At the Friday clinics, the Department of Health will also be offering a limited number of pneumococcal vaccinations free of charge to those at high risk. This includes persons 65 years of age or older and those with certain chronic health conditions.
The pneumococcal vaccine prevents against one of the most common causes of pneumonia. Ask about it when getting a flu shot.
Patient consent forms can be completed in advance from our website, cmchealth.net or at the clinic. Residents with an allergy to eggs or Thimerosal need a prescription; otherwise, prescriptions are not needed. The clinics are on a first-come, first-served basis as long as vaccine is available.
Updated information will be posted on our website, at cmchealth.net and on the flu hotline 463-6581. Please call the hotline before coming to the clinic to confirm it is being held.
