COURT HOUSE – In its role as an advocate for the business community, the Cape May County Chamber has taken steps to provide information and resources to its membership and the business public during the global pandemic outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to a release, Chamber staff have curated resources regarding the virus and placed them in an online information center, located at https://bit.ly/2wUSXmw .
Items include fact sheets that may be useful in guiding discussions among business leaders, as well as practical resources such as educational signage for use in workplaces.
Additionally, the Chamber sent, via direct e-mail to its members, resources for businesses developed by the U.S. Chamber and the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. For members in the hospitality and tourism community, the Chamber provided a link to a free webinar presented by the American Hotel Lodging Association with Dr. Jay Butler, the Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases and Senior Response Official for COVID-19 at the Centers for Disease Control, who covered topics specific to the hospitality industry and fielded questions.
To assist in safeguarding the health and well-being of the community, and in accordance with Health Department guidance regarding large gatherings and coronavirus, the Chamber has cancelled a luncheon scheduled for March 19, and has no other public events planned in the next month.
“In addition to providing resources for businesses, it’s our role to model good public health behaviors for our community,” commented Vicki Clark, president of the Chamber. “We’re avoiding large gatherings, switching our internal meetings to conference calls, and focusing on the well-being of our employees as well as the wider public. This is the time to prepare and prevent,” added Clark.
As the coronavirus situation develops rapidly, the Chamber has an eye to the future, and will begin planning for the upcoming summer season and potential impacts on the tourism industry, which is the County’s largest economic driver.
