‘Thursdays on Dune’ to be Held in Avalon

By Press Release

AVALON – The Avalon Department of Recreation is ready to kick summer into high gear with dozens of free activities planned weekly throughout the season. The activities include sports and recreation opportunities, free summertime beach movies, and an all-new “Thursdays on Dune” event that will attract families throughout South Jersey to an evening of free entertainment in Avalon’s downtown business district.
“The new ‘Thursdays on Dune’ event is a partnership with the Avalon Chamber of Commerce and will provide some of the best bands and entertainment available at the Jersey Shore for free at Avalon’s Veterans Plaza”, said Avalon Department of Recreation Interim Director Susan Ellenberg. “We are very excited at the entertainment lineup and Avalon merchants will be welcoming both parents and children for specials, freebies, and more”.
The “Thursdays on Dune” will begin June 26, at 7:00 p.m. Avalon’s “7 Mile Singers” will perform a live concert at Veterans Plaza featuring many all-American musical favorites. Other bands scheduled to perform this summer at “Thursdays on Dune” include “Loud and Klear”, “Mango Men”, “Star Band”, “The Mighty Parrot”, and others.
The Avalon Department of Recreation will again present its popular Big Beach Movie series every Tuesday night this summer at the 30th Street beach, starting at 8:45 p.m. The movies are free and open to the public; simply bring a beach blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the movie on a large screen erected on the beach. Avalon’s Big Beach Movie series begins June 24 with the classic “Frozen”. Other movies scheduled this summer include kids’ favorites “Monster University”, “Despicable Me 2”, “The Smurfs 2”, “The Nut Job”, and “Freebirds”, among others.
The Borough of Avalon offers free parking throughout the community with no parking meters or paid parking lots. There is a free, 900-space parking lot adjacent to Avalon Community Hall and the Avalon Boardwalk.
