St. Mary’s Thursday Lawn Concerts Return

By Leslie Truluck

STONE HARBOR – Jim Bannach of BLT kicked off the first of six “Thursdays on the Lawn” free summer concerts at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church here at 95th Street and Third Avenue July 9.
Spectators brought chairs or blankets and enjoyed some live tunes while many passing by stopped and enjoyed it just the same.
Young children danced on the grass while older folks sang and clapped their hands. Some at Springer’s across the street could enjoy music while waiting in line for ice cream.
Concerts will be held every Thursday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and free lemonade and homemade chocolate chip cookies are served during an intermission.
The following concerts are offered for the remainder of the summer:
• July 16: Bob Campanell
• July 23: Heart to Heart
• July 30: Earth Daddy
• Aug. 6: Snake Brothers
• Aug. 13: Jim Bannach of BLT
Members of the congregation are offering services to raise money for general church upkeep. A bulletin board with services and a fixed price will be available at future concerts.
Services may be as simple as providing transportation, or could be as work-intensive as hosting a dinner party for twelve.
Even kids will be involved to offer babysitting, dog walking or snow lawn work services to get the whole church community involved. The service board will be available at upcoming concerts.
