Ocean City Pops has great season planned

The Ocean City Pops Orchestra will present an array of entertaining concerts, talented soloists, Broadway Shows and special attractions during the 2009 season.
Legendary performer, Chita Rivera, kicks off the concerts, 8 p.m., Sun., June 28 in the City’s historic Music Pier auditorium.
The two-time Tony Award Winner and Kennedy Center honoree will be featured in an exciting program of memorable selections. Admission is $20 and $25.
Tickets to the opening show and all Pops Concerts are available at the Music Pier Box Office. The Box Office will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Starting June 26, hours will be expanded from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call 609-525-9248.
Tickets will also be available online at ocnj.us, and at the Music Pier Box Office for the Pops, Stockton summer concerts and all city sponsored shows.
The Pops offers special Six Tuesdays for the price of five concert packages and seven free concerts for students 18 and under. There are wheel chair accessible locations and listening devices for the hearing impaired.
Three fully staged Broadway shows have been scheduled featuring professional performers directed by Michael Hartman who has produced numerous acclaimed programs with the orchestra.
The first is “Hello Dolly,” winner of 10 Tony Awards scheduled for the Hughes Performing Arts Center, 6th and Atlantic Ave. The shows are set for July 7, 8 and 9 with a 2 p.m. matinee on July 9. Tickets are $25.
A Broadway favorite, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, will be held Aug. 18, 19, 20 at the Hughes Performing Arts Center, tickets $20 for adults, $12 for children. A third show, Little Shop of Horrors, will be presented Oct. 23, 24, 25, tickets $15 for adults, $10 for children with a smaller Pops ensemble.
Among the many highlights of the season will be a new recital special from Stephen Costello and Ailyn Perez that received rave notices in London.
Our Three Tenors, The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber, A Night In Old Vienna, Klezmer and All That Jazz, Carousel! Rogers and Hammerstein’s all time favorite musical in concert version, Joy to the World, an inspiring holiday concert are all on the bill.
The Chocolate Soldier, a fully staged operetta with the orchestra, a Lollipops Concert, a patriotic tribute on July 5th, Hooray For Hollywood have been scheduled along with many outstanding soloists.

This year the Pops marks its 81st consecutive season of concerts. It is one of the longest running municipally sponsored orchestras in the world.
