Cape May’s only Victorian House Museum, the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate is decorated with scarecrows, pumpkins, and hay barrels, as the town gets ready for fall, when it puts on some of its best events, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC).
Be inspired at Cape May’s fifth annual Designer Show House (open through Nov. 1), indulge in the 13th annual Cape May Food & Wine Festival (through Sept. 27), set sail on a Delaware Bay Lighthouse Adventure (Sept. 26), kick-up your heels like they did in Cape May’s heyday with the 37th annual Victorian Week (Oct. 9-18), get into the “spirit” of the season during Halloween Happenings (Oct. 16-31), celebrate the Cape May Lighthouse’s 150th Birthday on Oct. 31, match wits with master detectives during Sherlock Holmes Weekend (Nov. 6-8) and much more, right into the Christmas season.
Right now, spooky, scary or just plain silly scarecrows are needed to help put the “spirit” back in the season at the Physick Estate.
Local families, schools, businesses, and organizations are invited to participate in the contest.
Support stakes and straw for the scarecrows are available at the Emlen Physick Estate. Deadline to submit a finished creation is Oct. 6.
First place winners will receive a pizza party.
