Jersey Cape ‘Pixies’ Return From America’s Got Talent

By Jack Fichter

ERMA — Pixie Mystere from Jersey Cape Dance and Gymnastics Academy here, appeared on television’s top rated show, America’s Got Talent, this summer making it into the top 40 contestants.
The six girls, aged from eight to 11 years old, remain humble after appearing on live television from New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
America’s Got Talent Celebrity Judge Piers Morgan complemented the girls for performing well under pressure and called their performance “brilliant.”
They were eliminated in the semifinals only because they were “still children and had so many more opportunities coming to them in life.” The three celebrity judges said they believed the time had come for their older competition, the Footwork Kings.
The girls bear no hard feelings. They referred to the Footwork Kings as their “big brothers.”
Celebrity Judge Sharon Osborne said the Pixies were so cute, she wanted “to put them in her garden.”
“You are what America is about and what this show is about,” said Celebrity Judge David Hasselhoff.
The Pixie Mystere journey began when Stina Smith, director of Jersey Cape Dance Academy, received a call from the producers of America’s Got Talent, who had viewed the girls on a YouTube video. A private audition in New York City followed on a Friday, she said.
By the following Tuesday, there were on a live America’s Got Talent broadcast.
Annika Nash, gymnastics instructor for Jersey Cape Dance Academy, said the girls were not nervous at all before their first performance on live television.
“They knew they had to go out and hit it and hit in one time and that was their only shot at it,” she said.
Pixie Kaylee Clayburn said there weren’t nervous at all due to their prior experience in dance competitions.
The girls spent eight days on the West Coast. Their days were filled with rehearsals, interviews, makeup and hair design and wardrobe fittings.
Smith said it was a bittersweet experience when the girls were eliminated.
“Once they met Ashley Tisdale that morning, it did not matter at all what happened with them,” she said.
Nash said host Nick Cannon took a liking to the girls. They gave him a Pixie Mystere T-shirt.
“We love Nick Cannon,” said Pixie Kaylee Clayburn.
Smith said the girls are focused and professional all the time. She said they became accustomed to having cameras following them constantly.
In their final appearance on the show, Pixie Maxine Marshall danced down stairs standing on her hands as part of the routine. She said it was pretty easy to do although it looked difficult on camera.
Pixie Regan Frame said they enjoyed interacting with the other contestants backstage, playing games and taking lot of pictures.
They have returned to local schools and were acknowledged by their classmates “who saw them on TV.”
The Pixies received good news during the Herald’s visit to the dance academy. They have been chosen to represent a new line of clothing for Aeropostale.
They will travel to malls and industrial shows around the nation to perform.
What’s in their future? Perhaps as Hasselhoff suggested, a show in Las Vegas.
