Ghosts return to their favorite haunts

By On Deck Staff

Cape May is reputedly host to more than just the living.
Cape May reached the height of its popularity in the Victorian Era, when people became fascinated by the spiritual world, ghosts, and psychics.
Today, many believe the old spirits have not left their favorite Victorian Cape May haunts.
Discover the “other side” of Cape May on tours and activities during Spring Festival, April 24-May 3, co-sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) and the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May.
Get into the “spirit” of spring with the Historic Haunts Combination Tour.
Board a MAC trolley for a tour of some of Cape May’s regal Victorian residences, reputed to host more than the living. Then take a guided tour of the historic (some say haunted) Physick Estate at 1048 Washington St. with a discussion of Victorian spiritualism.
Tours are offered Fridays, April 25 and May 1, and Saturdays, April 26 and May 2 at 7:15 p.m.
A sweet and “spirited” tour returns during Cape May’s Spring Festival, the Ghosts and Goodies Tour.
This tour combines the Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tour with a stop at the famous Mad Batter Restaurant at 19 Jackson St.
First, guides relate the paranormal findings of Ghost Writer Craig McManus as you wind through the gas-lit streets of Cape May. Then finish your tour with a delicious dessert at the Mad Batter Restaurant.
Tours are offered Saturday, April 25 and May 2 at 9 p.m.
Ghosts are known to go bump in the night, setting the stage for the evening Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tours.
Take a 45-minute evening ride through the streets of Cape May as a guide relates the paranormal findings of ghost writer and psychic medium McManus.
Offered daily in the evenings; times vary.
Travel the ghostly path that leads to the Cape May Lighthouse on the Ghosts of the Lighthouse Trolley Tour.
Listen to ghost tales that have been unearthed by McManus on the trolley.
At the Lighthouse, feel the presence of the spirits. Climb to the top or stay below.
Offered Saturdays, April 25 and May 2 at 8 p.m.
MAC fosters the performing arts, and membership is open to all. For information call 609-884-5404 or 800-275-4278, or visit MAC’s website at www.capemaymac.org.
