Dickens Village donated to MAC

By On Deck Staff

Ernie and Betsy Heegard have generously donated their impressive Department 56 Dickens Village collection to the annual Christmas exhibit sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC).
The collection, which includes some rare pieces, has all of the buildings in the original shops of Dickens’ Village, the Christmas Carol cottages, the Old Curiosity Shop, David Copperfield characters, Oliver Twist characters, plus many more lighted buildings, villagers, accessories, and HO gauge trains and trolleys.
The architecture, customs, and history of Victorian England are reflected in these distinguished, quaint buildings and accessories. The Dickens Village series was first released in 1984.
Since 1976, Department 56 has been a leader in the giftware, collectibles and holiday decorating industry, offering nearly 3,000 different products.
The Heegard’s wonderful collection will be featured in the annual Christmas exhibit, “An Old-Fashioned Christmas: Holiday Traditions through the Years” at the Carriage House Gallery on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., from Nov. 20 through Jan.3, 2010.
