AVALON – The Avalon Free Public Library is pleased to announce guest author and speaker, Vince Papale, on Wed., July 18 at 7 p.m. in the Avalon Elementary School auditorium. In 1976, at the age of 30 and with no college football experience, Papale tried out for and amazingly made the Eagles NFL team, later being named special teams captain.
Vince and his wife, Janet Cantwell-Papale, will be talking about their book, Be Invincible! A Playbook for Reaching Your Full Potential. The playbook, written by Vince and Janet along with Tim Vandehey, describes invincible moments experienced by Vince, Janet, and others; including athletes, journalists, veterans, family, and friends. In the foreword to the playbook, former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil says “If you get nothing else out of this book, take with you the example of what a person can achieve if he has a passion for excellence guided by common sense and backed with an old-fashioned work ethic”.
Vince’s first book, Invincible: My Journey from Fan to NFL Team Captain, written with Chad Millman, was published in August of 2006 and is the tie-in to the Disney Pictures film of the same name, starring Mark Wahlberg. It debuted as the top weekend movie with $17 million in box office sales.
No tickets are required for the Papale lecture and the event is open to the public. Seating will be on a first-come-first served basis, beginning at 6 p.m. Vince and Janet will be available following the lecture to sign books only.
