To the Editor:
The local library has been an integral part of my life. When I was young, it was a reward for doing my chores. All those books to choose from – to take home and read at my leisure.
As a young mother, the library was a respite from more everyday tasks. My children spent hours quietly working on puzzles or looking at picture books. They volunteered when they were teens and received glowing references for their future careers.
Now, more than ever, the library is a significant part of my life. On any given day, I can take a class, learn to cook a meal, get help with my computer, or sit in one of their many alcoves and browse a multitude of newspapers, magazines or books. The library also offers free admission to local attractions and museums.
The library is the essence of community. It is a welcoming place for curiosity-seekers, young and old. I urge everyone to use your library card! It is your ticket to the world.
