Michael Conley, local historian and historic home researcher will speak about the once active 19th century port nearby the town of Dennisville and the adjacent shipyards where many vessels were built, launched, and towed from out the Dennis Creek to the Delaware Bay, andon to either Philadelphia or Delaware for the outfitting of their sails. Dennis Creek is an 8.8-mile-long tributary of Delaware Bay in Cape May County. The Dennis Creek Landing Shipyards are estimated to have built upwards of 50 vessels during the latter part of the 19th century.

This once cultural hotspot, a hub of 19th Century Maritime Commerce, will be presented by Cape historian Michael Conley. He has given Fireside Chats on the History of Dennisville Inn at the Historic Cold Spring Village. In 2011 he and an historic preservation consultant conducted a survey to expand the Dennisville Historic District on behalf of the Dennisville Historic Home Owners Association, ultimately approved in 2016 by the Historic Preservation Office of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Michael Conley has been active on the Cape May County historical scene for the last 25 years, significantly contributing to the preservation of the Dennisville Historic district, Historic Cold Spring village, and West Cape May Historic District. Come welcome Michael Conley at the Endicott Reardon Family Museum by attending this fascinating presentation on the history of a key location in Cape May County. Mix and meet follows; light refreshments will be served.
