SEAVILLE – A baby girl got her start in life thanks to first responders from the Seaville Fire and Rescue Company and Upper Township EMS.
Seaville Fire Chief Perry Coker said Seaville Fire’s deputy chief, Brian Allegretto, answered a call on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 9:09 p.m., about a mother in labor on the Garden State Parkway at mile marker 21.
Allegretto, a mobile intensive care unit paramedic, was joined quickly by Upper Township’s ambulance and EMTs Jessica Wriggins and William Handley.
Once on the scene, the EMS personnel confirmed that delivery was imminent and prepared for it in the patient’s vehicle. The baby, Amelia Charlotte, was successfully delivered at 9:18 p.m.
With no complications noted, mother and child were transported in the ambulance to AtlantiCare-Mainland Division. According to an update from the first responders, as of Friday, Nov. 22, at 1 a.m., Amelia Charlotte and her mom were both doing well.
Coker, who is in his first year as Seaville fire chief, said this is the second baby delivery his company has been involved in over the last three years. Previously, he said, they helped with the delivery of a baby girl in a gas station parking lot because EMS was out on another call.
He said the fire company typically responds to incidents on the Garden State Parkway for the safety of first responders on the scene.
