By Christopher South

GOSHEN – A motorcyclist from Villas was killed and his passenger critically injured when the motorcycle collided with an SUV making a left turn into the Bayway Marina on Route 47 on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at around 3:15 p.m.

Police identified the driver of the motorcycle as Robert Pfaff III, 40. He and his passenger, age 33, who was not further identified, were taken by helicopter to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Division. Pfaff was pronounced dead at the hospital and the woman was listed in critical condition as of Thursday, Oct. 3.

Police did not say how many people were in the SUV, but reported no one in that vehicle was injured.

Route 47 was closed around the crash scene for about four hours.

According to information released by the Middle Township Police Department, the driver of a white Subaru was heading north on Route 47 and attempting to make a left turn into the marina parking lot when it collided with the black Harley-Davidson driven by Pfaff. In the crash, Pfaff and his woman passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.

Reports posted via social media by Cape May Fire Wire said two medevac helicopters were requested for the accident. The helicopters, one from Jefferson Health and the second from Cooper Healthcare, were reported to have landed at the Cape May County Department of Mosquito Control to pick up the victims.

Along with the Middle Police Department, the Goshen Volunteer Fire Company and AtlantiCare paramedics responded to the scene. The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office is assisting township police in the investigation.
